Tiara Mack
Biography
Tiara Mack is an American politician, educator, and activist serving as the Rhode Island State Senator for District 6, representing Providence. A graduate of Brown University with a master's degree in education from Teachers College, Columbia University, she began her career as a public-school educator before entering elected office. Her experiences in education and community organizing have shaped a legislative agenda centered on equity, public investment, and expanding opportunities for historically underserved communities.
Elected to the Rhode Island Senate in 2020, Mack became the state's first openly queer Black legislator. Throughout her tenure, she has sponsored, co-sponsored, and supported legislation advancing reproductive freedom, affordable housing, public education, environmental justice, tenant protections, and LGBTQ+ equality. She has also helped advance legislation strengthening childhood lead safety protections, expanding access to reproductive healthcare, and recognizing Juneteenth as a paid state holiday in Rhode Island.
Beyond her legislative work, Mack is an outspoken advocate for civic engagement and grassroots organizing. Through public leadership, coalition building, and community advocacy, she continues to promote policies that address systemic inequality while encouraging greater political participation among young people, Black communities, LGBTQ+ individuals, and other historically marginalized groups.
