Shor Denny

Biography

Shor Denny is the founder and CEO of Community Now, a nonprofit organization established in Moreno Valley in 2010. Her work focuses on mental wellness, trauma-informed care, resilience, social-emotional development, cultural competency, and community empowerment.

Denny studied psychology at Grand Canyon University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Master of Science in Mental Wellness with an Emphasis in Prevention. Her professional work includes community education, life coaching, social justice programming, and resilience initiatives.

Through Community Now, Denny has developed programs including GET PLUGGED IN, Me, Myself & Mine, and Coaching for Cultural Success. Her work supports young people, educators, families, and communities in developing coping skills, emotional resilience, cultural understanding, and healthier responses to adversity.

Denny also serves as a HOPE Champion for San Diego State University and has participated in trauma-informed community initiatives. Her community work includes initiatives serving Black and LGBTQ+ communities as well as African American family wellness efforts.

Denny is the author of Spice Cabinet Healing: A guide on how to use the spices in our kitchen for everyday healing. The book explores everyday healing traditions through common herbs and spices, recipes and remedies, preparation methods, and intergenerational knowledge.
