Sade Giliberti
Biography
Giliberti began working in television as a child and became widely known through South Africa's YO-TV. She later hosted So You Think You Can Dance South Africa in 2008 and 2010, winning the 2010 South African Film and Television Award for Best Presenter in a Variety Show. She also presented MTV Choice and worked in South African television as a scriptwriter, producer, production manager, and promo director.
Giliberti moved to London in 2015 and continued working across on-screen and production roles. Her acting credits include Hard Copy and Spectrum London, in which she played Jaks Smart. In 2017, she was hired as Production Manager for Different for Girls, while continuing freelance work in videography and editing.
Her later production work has included scripted and unscripted television and film. She was a Production Coordinator for additional photography on Rye Lane and is currently identified by ScreenSkills as an experienced production manager working in film and television drama in London.
BQW Impact
Giliberti's significance to BQW is rooted in her visibility as an openly lesbian, Italian-Zulu South African media professional and her public discussion of representation for Black LGBTQ+ women. She has spoken about growing up without seeing queer people who looked like her represented accurately in South African media.
Her career also connects Black queer visibility across South African and British media. Her work has extended from presenting and acting into behind-the-scenes production, giving her a documented role in both on-screen representation and the creation of film and television content.
