Pamela Lightsey
Biography
Pamela R. Lightsey is an American theologian, ordained United Methodist elder, educator, and social justice activist. Raised in West Palm Beach, Florida, she served in the U.S. Army and worked as a civil servant before pursuing theological education. She earned degrees from Columbus State University, Gammon Seminary at the Interdenominational Theological Center, and Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary.
Lightsey has held academic and administrative positions at Boston University School of Theology and Meadville Lombard Theological School. She serves as Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs and Associate Professor of Constructive Theology at Meadville Lombard Theological School. She also serves as Site Pastor of Urban Village Church's Hyde Park-Woodlawn congregation and on Chicago's LGBTQ+ Advisory Council.
Her 2015 book, Our Lives Matter: A Womanist Queer Theology, examines oppression affecting Black LBTQ women through womanist and queer theological frameworks. Lightsey has also written and edited work addressing Black theology, queer Christianity, militarization, theological education, and social justice.

Her work addresses LGBTQ+ inclusion, racial justice, sexuality, and human dignity within religious and social contexts. Through her ministry, teaching, writing, and activism, she has advocated for LGBTQ+ inclusion within Christian institutions.
