Biography
Niecy Nash-Betts, born Carol Denise Ensley, is an American actress, comedian, producer, and television host from California. She began her professional acting career in the 1990s and gained broad recognition as Deputy Raineesha Williams on Reno 911! and as the host of the home-makeover program Clean House. Her work has since spanned comedy, drama, television hosting, film, and other forms of unscripted entertainment.
Nash-Betts expanded her dramatic range through roles in Getting On, Claws, and Ava DuVernay's When They See Us, in which she portrayed Delores Wise. She later portrayed Glenda Cleveland in Dahmer: Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, a performance that earned her the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie. Her television work has also included Scream Queens, The Rookie: Feds, and Grotesquerie.
In 2020, Nash-Betts married singer and songwriter Jessica Betts. She has described the relationship as an unexpected development in her life rather than a conventional coming-out experience, and has spoken publicly about allowing herself to acknowledge her feelings for Betts. Her language around sexuality has evolved over time, including her humorous use of “Jess-sexual,” while her more recent public self-description is as a Black queer woman.
