Jennifer Witcher (DJ Minx)
Biography
Born and raised in Detroit, Witcher began DJing after discovering the city's influential Music Institute in 1989. She founded Women on Wax in 1996 as a collective for women DJs and vocalists and established Women On Wax Recordings in 2001, creating a platform for women within Detroit's electronic-music scene.
Her production career includes A Walk in the Park (2003), Airborne EP (2003), Deep Structures E.P. (2004), and Midnite Bullet EP (2008). Her later releases include Purse First (2021), Do It All Night (2022), and Queendom Vol. 1 (2023).
Witcher has remained closely connected to Detroit's electronic-music community, including the city's Movement festival. Her later work has also incorporated LGBTQ+ advocacy, including Purse First, which benefited the Ruth Ellis Center, and Queendom Vol. 1, a Pride-focused release featuring LGBTQ+ artists.
