Crystal Hudson
Biography
Crystal Hudson is a third-generation Brooklynite who built a career spanning marketing, community engagement, public policy, and government before entering elected office. Her professional background includes work in sports, entertainment, and multicultural marketing, followed by roles in New York City government focused on community outreach and public engagement.
In 2020, Hudson founded Greater Prospect Heights Mutual Aid, providing community support during the COVID-19 pandemic. She was elected to the New York City Council in 2021 to represent District 35, which includes Crown Heights, Prospect Heights, Clinton Hill, and Fort Greene. Her public work has addressed aging in place, housing, racial justice, LGBTQIA+ equality, and community needs.
Hudson is currently serving her second term on the City Council and chairs the Committee on General Welfare. Her policy work includes A Black Agenda for New York City and The Marsha & Sylvia Plan, an LGBTQIA+ policy agenda developed through the Council's LGBTQIA+ Caucus. As an openly queer Black woman in public office, she has brought that perspective to policy discussions involving racial justice, LGBTQIA+ rights, housing, economic security, caregiving, and social services.
