Cherise Alexandria Gary (UNIIQU3)
Biography
Born in Hillside, New Jersey, Gary developed her musical practice in the Newark area and became closely associated with the Jersey club scene. She became involved in Newark’s DIY nightlife and ballroom communities, developing a practice that connected the city’s club culture with audiences beyond New Jersey. Her work as UNIIQU3 has helped bring Jersey club to wider national and international audiences.
Gary released the EP Heartbeats in 2021, expanding her work as a producer, songwriter, and vocalist. Her collaborations have included TT the Artist, and her work has expanded through international touring and collaborations with major artists, including touring with Tinashe and opening for Beyoncé’s Renaissance World Tour. In 2026, she released Mile High Club, the first single from her announced debut album. She also released “Calling My Name (feat. Leonce & Cakes Da Killa)” in July 2026.
Gary has maintained a strong connection to queer nightlife and community. She has spoken publicly about her bisexual identity and her experiences with ballroom and LGBTQ+ club culture in Newark. Her community work has included events designed to create opportunities for women and queer communities within club culture, extending her contribution beyond music production and performance.

UNIIQU3’s significance to BQW lies at the intersection of Black women’s cultural production, bisexual identity, queer nightlife, and Jersey club culture. Her work has helped bring a regional Black dance-music tradition from Newark to wider audiences while maintaining connections to the communities and club spaces from which her practice developed.
Her work has also included creating and participating in club spaces connected to women, LGBTQ+ communities, and Newark’s queer nightlife. Through DJing, production, performance, and community-oriented events, she has contributed to the cultural life surrounding Jersey club and electronic dance music.
