adrienne maree brown is an American writer, facilitator, movement strategist, podcaster, and multidisciplinary artist whose work explores how individual, relational, and collective practices can contribute to social transformation. Her writing spans fiction, nonfiction, poetry, spells, and tarot, while her broader practice includes music, podcasting, somatics, and doula work. Her work is informed by more than two decades of social and environmental justice facilitation, Black liberation organizing, visionary fiction, and transformative justice.

Brown is the author and editor of influential works including Emergent Strategy: Shaping Change, Changing Worlds, Pleasure Activism: The Politics of Feeling Good, We Will Not Cancel Us, Holding Change, Fables and Spells, Loving Corrections, and the Grievers speculative fiction trilogy. Across these works, she examines emergence, pleasure, accountability, healing, relationships, imagination, and collective liberation.

In 2017, brown founded the Emergent Strategy Ideation Institute (ESII), a collective exploring how to build more generative relationships with change. She currently serves as ESII's writer-in-residence.

Brown also has an extensive audio and performance practice. She co-hosts How to Survive the End of the World with Autumn Brown and has been involved with Octavia's Parables and the Emergent Strategy Podcast. Her creative work also includes songwriting, singing, ritual performance, and tarot.

After living in New York, Oakland, and Detroit, brown settled in Durham, North Carolina. Detroit remains an important part of her personal, organizing, and creative history.
